SONOS PLAY:1 is perhaps the most accessible entry-level model when it comes to filling your home with atmosphere in the form of sound. Quite logical when you consider that SONOS offers a large number of different products. Wherever you look, when it comes to music in the home or sound in general, SONOS is almost always mentioned as one of the options. Maintaining the connection to the network is good Sonos is clearly failing here in terms of social responsibility, especially because it is nowhere reported that Sonos consumes so much energy when you are not using it. That's why I always unplug all the plugs when I'm not playing music, which is quite annoying, because they're plugged in three different places behind cabinets. According to tests I found on the internet, each speaker in standby mode uses as much energy as an energy-saving light bulb that burns continuously (6 to 9 watts). And sometimes playlists take a while to sync with the Sonos app.Ī final problem is the energy consumption: the Sonos speakers do not have an off button. Well, it's nice that you have all your streaming services in one place, but you have to get used to a different interface than when you listen to music in a different way. (The Play 5 also has a 3.5mm jack cable input, but can't stream this to the other speakers.)įurthermore, that hassle with that own Sonos app is sometimes a bit annoying. This is a big risk, which Sonos doesn't warn about enough in my opinion. If the servers are down, for example due to a malfunction, or if Sonos would go bankrupt, or if your own internet connection does not work for a while, you are left with time-consuming speakers that do nothing at all. Everything runs through Sonos' servers, which can cause some problems. The speakers get their streaming music (Rdio, Spotify, TuneIn, etc.) directly from the internet themselves. This feels a bit cumbersome, since those devices are just the user interface. You control the speakers with a free app that works on all devices that you can connect to your WiFi (computer, tablet, phone). (And because I like to think about the neighbors.) So strong, that I turned it back slightly in the equalizer, because I actually thought it was too much. The Play 5 has an impressive, very strong bass. The fact that you can use them in stereo mode is ideal. The Play 1's do what they're supposed to do, without too much bass, but I didn't expect that either. The sound quality of the speakers is without a doubt good. It's also nice that because of the multiple speakers I don't have to turn the music too loud to hear it everywhere. It's great that I can turn on music in both rooms and thus walk back and forth without losing my music. Will not work if the Sonos servers are not workingįor my new apartment I first bought a Play 5 for the living room, and a few weeks later two Play 1's for the kitchen. Note: this speaker is compatible with Google Assistant. Always make sure that your WiFi is installed on the right network before you use your speaker(s). On a 5GHz network, Sonos only works in a surround setup. Note: Sonos products use a 2.4GHz network. With playback options via WiFi, internet radio, or integrated streaming services, you'll never tire of listening to music. This lets everyone in your house enjoy your playlists. Connect more Sonos speakers to each other with WiFi or via the power grid, place them in different rooms and control them with the Sonos app. As a result, your music will sound both powerful and clear. This speaker has 2 drivers that produce bass and treble individually. With the Sonos Play:1, you can listen to a clear sound in small rooms. Select the Sonos One if you're looking for the successor to the Play:1. The Sonos Play:1 isn't available anymore.
